<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have been having fun painting some of our Empress modern Russians. The research was based on what I could find on Google and not too surprisingly many of the pictures related to Russia's recent 'fun' in the Crimea and Ukraine. Anyway as the uniform and equipment was and is in transition it was an interesting exercise tracking down the various cammo patterns used. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is what I ended up going for.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I painted the figure faces first and then moved onto the main part of the figure. Firstly the figure was painted with Vallejo Retractive green. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/MODERNS/RUSSIANS/a%204_zpsob4hy0gx.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/MODERNS/RUSSIANS/a%204_zpsob4hy0gx.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Secondly I washed over this colour with Games Workshop brown wash called Nuln Oil. I love these washes as they are easy to use and save a great deal of time.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/MODERNS/RUSSIANS/a%205_zpsai6el0ep.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/MODERNS/RUSSIANS/a%205_zpsai6el0ep.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Then when dry using the original colour Retractive Green I highlight the raised surfaces on the figure. This can be done in a very detailed way or fairly quickly given that the next cammo colours actually break up the surface look. This means that you can actually not go into as much detail as you might use on a less cammo based uniform.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/MODERNS/RUSSIANS/a%203_zpsgvu0gmth.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/MODERNS/RUSSIANS/a%203_zpsgvu0gmth.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Now to apply the cammo dots. In real life the speckles are tiny dots but when shown on a figure on the table they disappear, as they are designed to do. I therefore use slightly larger splodges. These are not used all over the surface but in small groups. For this I use Vallejo Yellow Green.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/MODERNS/RUSSIANS/a%202_zpsewpftdjy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/MODERNS/RUSSIANS/a%202_zpsewpftdjy.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Following my research it becam noticeable that some uniforms had a subtle brick red dot pattern also mixed in. I have no idea what percentage this was used in producing the uniforms so went for about a 40% with red dots and 60% without. For the red dots I used Vallejo Red Leather.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/MODERNS/RUSSIANS/a%206_zpswpnf7ioq.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/MODERNS/RUSSIANS/a%206_zpswpnf7ioq.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Pack and equipment also varied with some following the cammo pattern and other being plain green the same as the uniform colour. I also noticed that some packs were the old khaki colour. I have done a few like this to break up the look of the unit.<br />
<br />
Next up I did the black section such as weapons, goggles and gloves. These were black with Vallejo German Grey (very dark grey). For example the elastic head band on the goggles I painted grey. You do get some with the manufacturers name clearly stated in white. I presume these are private purchase ones.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/MODERNS/RUSSIANS/a%207_zpsdpcljgln.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/MODERNS/RUSSIANS/a%207_zpsdpcljgln.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/MODERNS/RUSSIANS/a%208_zpsc84ufi0t.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/MODERNS/RUSSIANS/a%208_zpsc84ufi0t.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/MODERNS/RUSSIANS/009_zpspzqhblmo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/MODERNS/RUSSIANS/009_zpspzqhblmo.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The glass in the goggles I created by using a pencil to fill in the glass. This method is also great for creating windows in vehicles. The weapons are black highlighted dark grea and then a modelling knife used to scrap off some of the worn surfaces to let the metal show through. I then use the Games work shop black wash to blend the work in.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After this its pretty much finished apart from the usual small bits such as the Russian flag badges. All in all quite simple and fun with what I thought was an excellent finished look. Well I would say that wouldn't I?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Some of the finished figures. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/MODERNS/RUSSIANS/030_zpsjik7vwhr.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/MODERNS/RUSSIANS/030_zpsjik7vwhr.jpg" height="256" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The face masks were also interesting in that many seem to be a dark green but also black was in evidence.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

And just for fun what it looks after a raid. The flames are made from wire wool spray painted black and grey and a light from Ikea placed in the centre. The lights flicker which looks great. I need to get some more next time I am dragged round by the missus. </div>

I now have accumulated a lot of figures and some vehicles. More vehicles being worked on.<br />
<br />
I am a sucker for terrain and one of the interests for this conflict was creating a jungle which I have done in my usual megalomaniac way. Part of this project was to create a village, which then developed into a fishing village with huts able to stand in the sea. Great for those coastal attacks as per Apocalypse Now.<br />
<br />
As the majority of the build was scratch built I thought I would show off how I did it.<br />
<br />
To start I cut an MDF base from a spare off cut I had. I then marked out the buildings I wanted on and the first was the commercially purchased building from the Sarissa range. A well designed and manufactured product the building gave me a good scale to work on the other scratchbuilt items.<br />
However this buildings would have to fit in with the others that I made and wanted a lot more detail and character and so it underwent a transformation. First of all it was glued to the main base following assembly. Then the floor boards were added using cut down coffee stirrers. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/678_zpsjj9bsiln.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/678_zpsjj9bsiln.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/679_zps6ytkkpik.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/679_zps6ytkkpik.jpg" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
Once in place I could position the other two buildings on the base. These had stilts made from wooden chop sticks that I had picked up some where. Seemed appropriate. The floor was added and then they both got their floor boards added.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/680_zpsofqo6pry.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/680_zpsofqo6pry.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/026_zps8qi97xyr.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/026_zps8qi97xyr.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/028_zpsccjfi1cu.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/028_zpsccjfi1cu.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/684_zpsl2qx3awj.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/684_zpsl2qx3awj.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I then added some wicker fencing, available from Empress Miniatures, to create what was originally going to be a pig pen but eventually turned into a vegetable patch. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/685_zpslqnymel4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/685_zpslqnymel4.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
At this point I had all of the buildings spaced out and glued onto the main base. Everything fitted well and not too cramped. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/686_zpsi7svfbrh.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/686_zpsi7svfbrh.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/032_zpshrpsd5zo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/032_zpshrpsd5zo.jpg" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next job was to put the mud floor on. This was done with ready made tile grout and fine sand. Have to say that I love this job as its quite therapeutic slapping the stuff on and moving it into position with some water to give more fluidity. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/033_zpsqb9s9a3k.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/033_zpsqb9s9a3k.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/689_zpsmm2f4dku.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/689_zpsmm2f4dku.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/690_zpswwy8tknf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/690_zpswwy8tknf.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The two scratch built buildings were then created which is easy as they are simple box shapes. Once these were done I started on the roof of the Sarissa building. I wanted to have one with w tree bark roof with the central section made from old tattered material. Old cheese boxes were cut up and glued onto the Sarissa building roof. I made a scale mistaske at this point and made them too big but once they were dry I went back and distressed them into smaller panels.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/011_zpsaugp4zjm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/011_zpsaugp4zjm.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/917_zpsylnfr0eq.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/917_zpsylnfr0eq.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
All of the buildings had sacking cut and glued on to show the weave of the walls, even the Sarissa building. Once each wall was dry the windows and doors were cut out with a sharp knife. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/012_zpskfnaxlg4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/012_zpskfnaxlg4.jpg" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/919_zps3q9k4tyn.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/919_zps3q9k4tyn.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Wooden supports were cut from coffee stirrers and glued on.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/920_zps7mb4cmyg.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/920_zps7mb4cmyg.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/921_zps3twhlxjv.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/921_zps3twhlxjv.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next up were the two roofs of the other buildings. These were going to be straw so teddy bear fur was cut and glued on. Once dry brown emulsion from the local DIY centre was painted on to create a firm shape. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/924_zps5e1sr5pt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/924_zps5e1sr5pt.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/922_zpshxqsf1zm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/922_zpshxqsf1zm.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Once these were made the whole model was under coated with the brown matt paint.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/919a%205a_zpsx9elveqi.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/919a%205a_zpsx9elveqi.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/919a%204a_zpsy00mbtot.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/French%20Indo%20China/Village/919a%204a_zpsy00mbtot.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Once dry the village was ready for painting. I wanted the buildings to lookm old and used so originally painted the wood very grey but when dry I realised that I had created the perfect black and white village straight out of an old photo which looked great but not what I wanted. I therefore added some browns and yellows to give it a bit of contrast and colour.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
By using washes and dry brushing techniques the buildings gradually came alive. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Well that's it. Quite simple. Just time and materials necessary.<br />
<br />
Cheers,<br />

Lots of bits but very easy to put together. The plan is to create a mule team for the gun which is why the model breaks down into its exact parts ready for the mules.<br />

<br />
I use super glue when putting these together. Please be careful and do not glue yourself to the model or get it in your eye like I did. Its very undignified trying to hold your head upside down under a tap!<br />
<br />
I will let the pictures speak for themselves as it actually pretty straight forward.<br />

Told you it was easy.PDEhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16230349377010565909noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5217593504743669456.post-2312254453731758212015-10-08T04:24:00.002-07:002015-10-08T04:24:45.280-07:00Rolls Royce. Nearly there.So the beast is beginning to take its familiar shape. Hopefully so far you have found none of this too stressful? Well its now get even easier. Honest.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/075_zpsafidyevx.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/075_zpsafidyevx.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Thes two V brackets and the step are glued onto the rear compartment.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/077_zps7evovrhx.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/077_zps7evovrhx.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/078_zpsjjn38bsd.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/078_zpsjjn38bsd.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The front head lights are glued onto the mudguards. The radiator shields are then glued onto their hinges. The two brackets can be used to hold them open or, as was the case when in action the shields were locked in place with the front edges locked so that they created an arrow head and protected the radiator.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/079_zpsarnd09nh.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/079_zpsarnd09nh.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The spare wheels are glued onto the locating lugs.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/080_zpsufazi5ud.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/080_zpsufazi5ud.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Now the wheels. This illustration shows clearly how to place the rear double wheels on.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/WHEELS_zpsrfddf6yg.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/WHEELS_zpsrfddf6yg.jpg" height="233" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/081_zpsyaz4zkyp.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/081_zpsyaz4zkyp.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The two front wheels are then glued onto the axle. Job done.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/082_zpsivcabm3p.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/082_zpsivcabm3p.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/083_zpscgqxcvma.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/083_zpscgqxcvma.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Fairly easy.<br />
<br />
This model has a great deal of scope for making it in various ways to give it a very individual campaign look. Worth doing is a Google images scan as this will bring up many interesting pictures that will give you a great many ideas.<br />
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The engine is next if you plan to use it. File the two ends so that it fits onto the chassis.<br />
<br />
Next the parts needed for the body and the engine compartment.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/049_zpsnjkqzrt1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/049_zpsnjkqzrt1.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
The resin body is glued onto the chassis. It clicks into place easily and make sure that you slide it to the rear as far as it goes. Then glue the rear section in place as this ensures the body is in the correct place.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/051_zpscitbd07j.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/051_zpscitbd07j.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/053_zps9ioddylz.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/053_zps9ioddylz.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next up is the engine and compartment. Glue the engine in place with the high part of the top bracket towards the radiator. The engine fits onto the four lugs on the chassis and you may need to file the tubular section a little to ensure a fit. You can see that I am not into engines as I am sure there are proper names for the bits of the engine. Also file flat the fan pip so that it is flush with the fan. Its best to put the engine in before building the side walls.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/057_zpsxjgexkcw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/057_zpsxjgexkcw.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/059_zps28kdjxnx.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/059_zps28kdjxnx.jpg" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/060_zpsrohrya8d.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/060_zpsrohrya8d.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next you may need to take the two sides of the engine compartment and cut with a sharp knife about 1mm from each end. The picture shows how much. I did this to ensure a good fit and filed it to tidy it up.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/054_zpst6pzri9z.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/054_zpst6pzri9z.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then build the engine compartment around the engine. In the illustration I left out the engine on this model so that you can see the compartment.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/055_zpsqaav5vd3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/055_zpsqaav5vd3.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When all is glued and drul get the two bonnet sections and glue in place. These can be glued open to allow access to the engine.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/056_zpsrfqzzj3t.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/056_zpsrfqzzj3t.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next glue in place the two brackets that support the front mudguards.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/062_zpsqjfpwxan.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/062_zpsqjfpwxan.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When dry glue in place the front mudguards.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/066_zpspnnzhxvn.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/066_zpspnnzhxvn.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then glue the rear mudguards in place.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then glue the brackets for the running boards.</div>

Instead of the normal resin block associated with wargames models we produced a model kit. This kit is not for the faint hearted and on a scale of 1 to 5 I would put it at 4. However it is a very cleanly cast kit and so very little cleaning of parts is needed which is a big plus. Also many of the parts supplied are unnecessary such as the stand alone Vickers MG and the engine. However we designed the kit for a number of eventualities and as the Vickers was regularly set up on its mount we gave that option to the modeler.<br />
<br />
We are also proud of the design of the spoked wheels which took a great deal of thought to accomplish and much credit goes to the late Stuart Griffin who eventually managed to cast the wheels after some experiment. Thanks mate, RIP.<br />
<br />
I have been modelling for a great many years and have therefore accumulated a lot of experience and more importantly equipment. For the assembly of this kit I used a knife, a couple of needle files, and super glue. I also put my patient chip in which I felt may be needed. In all honesty I really did not need to worry as there were few problems and none that were not easily overcome. One of the biggest pieces of advice I can give is that some of the brackets are best glued and then left to set until solid before proceeding. I did not always follow this advice ha ha. <br />
<br />
Lets start with the wheels. They come in two halves with one half having a male lug the other a female whole. This ensure that the spokes inter link. Int he picture you can see what wheel sets you will need for the complete vehicle. There are also two special wheels for the inner rear wheel. One is the standard spoked wheel and the other has no spokes. The diagram shows how they fit onto the wheel.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/037_zpsxc539546.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/037_zpsxc539546.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/038_zpsqzs7thx9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/038_zpsqzs7thx9.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
Next up are the pieces needed for the Vickers. Only the MG is relevant for the turret.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/040_zpsibyinsxw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/040_zpsibyinsxw.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/041_zpsshwkrhgo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag359/EmpressMiniatures/JAZZ%20AGE/041_zpsshwkrhgo.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The turret MG is located into the pin whole. The turret lid is glued on and the the hatch glued. Note the turret handle goes onto the inside of the hatch when it is closed.<br />

Meanwhile the Republican fighter caught up with the bomber and was able to damage it significantly. Meanwhile the bomber just continued to fly towards its target the town. However the crew were scrambling around trying to find their parachutes.

The Republican aircraft was just screaming into ground attack and then the next card produced an Italian bomber at high altitude so the fighter started the slow process of climbing. This was to take two moves.

Joined by Ian and a team from the RAF Wargames Club we played a game on a 16' x 6' table. The scenario was a Republican defensive line in front of a Town, dominated by a Convent. This was then attacked by Nationalist forces. The game was played in the old Raleigh bike factory premises and was VERY hot so good Spanish weather. The game took all day but finally ended in a Nationalist victory as a column of PZ1's found a way across the river and into the heart of the town. All achieved on the very last move.
Here are some pictures. Sit tight there are a lot : )
These opening pictures show the table layout and the dispositions of the armies. Republicans are in the town and trenches. Nationalists are coming on from the far end with a lot of armour and infantry advancing following an initial bombardment on the trenches. Note the Republican aircraft. Al aircraft arrive by chance card and he arrived first move. He flew down the table intent on straffing the Nationalists. More to follow.

My plan is FOR a NWF campaign set in the 1920's and 1930's. Based on history but with a dollop of pulp thrown in and with a tribute to that great film The Drum.

Operation Prince. Keith and I had a game last year using Force on Force rules. The scenario was a known Taliban reinforced area that the allies planned to take control of. US Special Forces would land at the far end of the table and SAS would speed in Land Rovers to their support. Meanwhile US infantry with motorised support would sweep from one end of the table to the other.
Taliban hotspots were placed on the table with a few Taliban placed in hidden positions.
First move the US special forces prepare to drop from helicopter to surprise the Taliban. Supported by an Apache all looked good. UNTIL an amazingly lucky shot hit the chopper which crash landed. Now this was quite literally due to some amazing dice rolls but turned the scenario into a rescue mission. The pilot was non other than Prince Harry. There goes my Knighthood!!!
The scenario now became a rescue mission with the SAS being tasked to rescue the Prince and his co pilot. In the meantime the US special forces went into defense mode. GAME ON.

Exciting or what????
Well so exciting that I forgot to take anymore pictures. Anyway the Special Forces took the house and prepared it for defense. The SAS raced towards the Prince's position but hit an IED losing one man and a Landrover. US troops in a Stryker raced towards the objective but were hit by US artillery in a Blue on Blue. Losing one man and their vehicle.
The main US infantry captured the main village after heavy fighting and were able to support the SAS in their advance on Quads and then by foot. The stream was defended by Taliban who were quickly dealt with but the small bridge gave way under a HUMVEE so transport was now stuck. Meanwhile the US Special forces and the aircrew defended their house against heavy attacks in which 4 US troops were killed and countless Taliban. As the Taliban broke through the outer compound the Prince and his co pilot decided to jump out of the back window and run for the SA position across the stream with the last of the US special forces covering their backs and the SAS advancing in a Who Dares Wins charge, and despite heavy fire they managed to get across the stream to safety. Just. Phew. Great game but next time I promise to take more pictures. Sorry.

Its approaching two years since I last posted which is quite frankly rediculous. However life has just been far too busy in so many ways. Empress Miniatures has taken over our lives in a huge way but there is a little light at the end of the tunnel now and I am determined to make the most of it and get back in the Blog saddle as much as I can.
Therefore it seemed proper to restart my posts with something spectacular and what can be more spectacular than Richard coming to visit our little Empire and have a play test with his latest WW2 rules, Chain of Command. Richard very kindly visited and we got a small group of chaps together to play a SCW game.
Great fun was had as Richard explained the rules and dice were duly rolled. The scenario involved a Spanish village being held by Republican units against Nationalist Carlist attackers. <a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/SCW/Lardy%20Game/DSCF3869_zps1a1331e3.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/SCW/Lardy%20Game/DSCF3869_zps1a1331e3.jpg" /></a>
The start of the game was the patrol section as units moved towards each other. Not the round flag discs.
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/SCW/Lardy%20Game/DSCF3862_zpsd8baf7fa.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/SCW/Lardy%20Game/DSCF3862_zpsd8baf7fa.jpg" /></a>
The the attack began. Republicans chose to defend the church and stables whilst the Carlist moved in.
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/SCW/Lardy%20Game/DSCF3867_zpsfd88ee1f.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/SCW/Lardy%20Game/DSCF3867_zpsfd88ee1f.jpg" /></a>

A Nationalist T26 quickly destroyed a milita armoured coach.

Whilst Carlist units pinned down Republican troops other Carlist forces charged in from the flank and quickly over ran all enemy forces.
<a href="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/SCW/Lardy%20Game/DSCF3891_zpsba76fb7f.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Eaglstone/SCW/Lardy%20Game/DSCF3891_zpsba76fb7f.jpg" /></a>

The Republican commander in his captured CV33 decided to beat a very hasty retreat as the Carlists went about their work.

A great game. The Republican forces were perhaps a little weak and the Nationalists a little strong in the unit lists but nothing that could not be slightly changed. The rules gave a very interesting game and the initial section of patrolling is a very interesting way of introducing players to the conflict on the table top. Have to say well done to the Lardies for their clever ideas and I heartily recommend them for players who are looking for some fast action tabletop rules.

Well its been a very long time since the last post. This has been due to lots of other life pressure.
We are currently refighting Edgehill 1642. The number of moves is limited to 15 and we are at 9.
I am Parliament HUZZAH!!!! Come on Essex!!!!
Keith is the Man of Blood Charles commanding the malignant hoards of Royalists.
Obviously I am not in anyway biased.
So far Ye Kinge has swept away the Parliament cavalry on the right flank with some nifty dragoon action. However Prince Ruprecht was mortally wounded by a small cannon firing rusty nails so its not all bad.
In the center Essex has advanced on mass and the Malignant despot seems caught like a rabbit in the coach lamps and is not moving but waiting for the righteous Parliament hoards to descend.
All very exciting but I fear that its going to be a very long war. More to follow

The original concept for these came about when I agreed to write a quick set for the first Gentlemans Wargames Parlour BCW game a couple of years ago.
The rules were greeted with some enthusiasm and then Osprey asked me if they could publish them. Having been asked I decided on a complete re write and the soon to be published rules are the result.
Many of the original concepts remain although a huge amount has been changed. Hopefully they will be well received although I think thay are worth buying simply for the cover art work which is fantastic as far as I am concerned.

Both work in our proper jobs as well as Empress have kept us both busy so no posting.
We finished our experimental 'campaign' game though which proved to be pretty accurate in style with the Brits using lots of heavy arty to knock out the German tanks until their defense collapsed.
Excellent fun and we are currently planning on another big D Day game soon.
At the moment we have started on an Impetus Renaissance game for a slight change of direction.
Anyway here are some pictures of the KG Normandy game.
